Today I woke up and turned the lights on in our bedroom. Paid taxes on that. Then I turned on the hot water and took a shower. Paid taxes on that. Then I used my microwave and paid taxes on the energy it took to heat up my breakfast burrito. Next I walked out of my apartment, which I'm paying taxes on, and got into my car that I'm paying taxes on. I stopped and got some gas. Paid a few different taxes on that. On the way to work I illegally made a phone call and added another couple dollars to the phone bill I'm paying taxes on. I stopped at the coffee shop and paid taxes on my morning coffee. Finally I made it to work and earned a paycheck, which will be taxed in about 17 different ways.
I pay taxes everyday on everything. I can't turn on a light, work a shift, buy car insurance, I can't even die without paying taxes. There is literally nothing in my life left untaxed, considering my existence itself is taxed. It is not hyperbole to say that I pay taxes every single second of my life.
If you pay bills and support yourself you do too. If you don't, your opinion is completely irrelevant on this issue.
Yet even though I pay taxes all the time on everything everyday forever, we're told it's not enough. Even though the government appropriates a trillion dollars a year and borrows another 2 trillion, they still aren't taking enough. Even though you could add up all the actual wealth in the world and it wouldn't equal the amount of money the government takes from its citizens every year, we're told it's simply not enough.
And all the while our founding fathers, the men who were sparked to the point of full scale war because the British government levied a modest tax on tea to help pay for the defense of the colonies, look at us and shake their heads in disbelief.
