Obama is running a new ad featuring Morgan Freeman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nUDg-O93GU&feature=player_embedded
The spot repeats the ridiculous claim that "few presidents have faced as many challenges as Obama".
Really? Now I know Obama generally targets people who haven't read anything about history since their 11th grade State-mandated propaganda pamphlet sometimes referred to as a "textbook", but even those folks have to be too smart to believe this nonsense.
Few presidents have had to deal with tougher problems than what we face today? Well someone tell that to Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Madison who had to hold the country together in the face of forces -- foreign and domestic -- that could have very possibly torn it apart. Send a quick e-mail to every president between our Founders and Lincoln who worked under the constant threat of secession, both from New England and the South, and had to manage the country's affairs actually within the confines of the constitution (can you imagine?!). Also send the memo to Johnson, Arthur, Roosevelt and LBJ who had to take over after their predecessors were assassinated and the nation was in turmoil. Make sure to pass the word to Lincoln and Grant who had a little thing like the War Between the States and reconstruction to deal with. Someone fax this new information to FDR, Truman and Wilson who were tasked with the minor duty of World Wars on their watch.
Of course make sure to notify Calvin Coolidge who took over after Harding died in office and immediately faced immense public distrust because of the scandals of his former boss.
Also send a line to Reagan who had the easy chore of overcoming the disastrous Carter years, an assassination attempt and the Cold War.
Oh and remember to tell Bush. He just had, you know, the worst attack on American soil since the Revolutionary War.
And I've only named a few.
I'm not a fan of all these guys and I certainly don't endorse all of their actions. Some of them I actually loath almost as much as Obama. Let me be clear about that. But if the question is simply "who had the hardest challenges while in office", Obama isn't even in the top 30.
And in the end he can do whatever he wants because nobody cares about the constitution anymore. That's gotta make his job a little easier, don't you think?
Point is: whatever excuses Barack has, most of our presidents have had better ones. So stop whining, Barry. Thanks.
