The Supreme Court is going to rule on affirmative action (again). Affirmative action is fascinating because, although it exists, nobody has ever come up with a solid argument for why it should. You know you're in trouble when an argument for your position would IDEALLY go something like this:

You: I believe in affirmative action!

Smarter person: Why?

You: Because we have to fight racism! :::starts humming John Lennon's "Imagine":::

Smarter person: What is racism?

You: Racism is when you treat one race better than another simply because of the color of their skin.

Smarter person: What is affirmative action?

You: It's when you... treat... one race... better than another because... of the color of their skin.

Smarter person: So in order to combat theoretical racism we should institute actual racism?

You: ... Yeah.... Yeah that sounds about right... Imagine alllll the peeeople shaaaring alllll the wooorld!!!

The thing is, I suspect even these folks wouldn't want the guy operating on their brain, or the guy called in to diffuse the bomb, or the guy flying the plane to be the guy who made the cut because they had to fill their race quota at med school or bomb tech school or flight school.
